Davis Cup quest: Rafael Nadal puts Spain first

Rafael Nadal is putting his country first, even though it could wreck his dream of becoming World No1 again.

Just four days after winning the US Open on Monday, the Spaniard will play in the Davis Cup for the first time since 2011 before he jets off for the Asian leg of the world tennis tour.

“Given the fatigue I am feeling, I would like to rest,” said Nadal (above, with the US Open trophy). “I am fighting for something as special as finishing as No1. The Davis Cup won’t help me but I said I would go.”
