LTA suffer funding cut

Facing the cuts: LTA chief executive Roger Draper
3 April 2012

Sport England today cut their funding of tennis in this country by £530,000 after the number of adults playing the game here dropped by 25 per cent since 2008.

The Active People Survey revealed that the average number of adults taking part in tennis at least once a week fell from 487,500 to 375,800.

Despite the cut, the LTA’s funding award for 2009 to 2013 still stands at £24.5million.

Roger Draper, the LTA’s chief executive, said: “We recognise the survey results are disappointing and continue to work closely with Sport England in order to grow tennis.”

The British Judo Association had their funding cut by £353,000 and both sports have been given new participation targets.
