PFA told 'take it or leave it'

Steve Stammers13 April 2012

The Professional Footballers Association was today given a "take it or leave it" ultimatum at a meeting in London.

The Premier League's latest offer to the union as a cut of television money is £50million over three years, or £16.6m a year.

The PFA is threatening strike action unless it gets five per cent of the TV fees, or £26m a year.

But Standard Sport has learned that Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has the backing of all but one of the 20 Premiership clubs for a hard-line approach. Manchester United are the dissenters.

Scudamore was arguing today that in only two other European countries do the clubs pass on a cut from the television cash. One donation is £1m and the other $1m.

The players will be warned that if they strike, the clubs will fine them two weeks' wages for each week in which they refuse to play.
