Prior scores big as England miss out

14 April 2012

Matt Prior's century was not enough to save England A from defeat in their second first-class match in Colombo today.

Reduced to 26 for five in their chase to score 285 for a 2-0 series win against Sri Lanka A, England recovered to 229 for six but another collapse saw them fall 40 runs short of their target.

Prior, of Sussex, hit 104 off 106 balls and shared stands of 81 with Alistair Cook and 126 with Graeme Swann before the latter's dismissal for 71 saw the last four wickets fall in four overs.

Leg-spinner Malinga Bandara took three wickets to take his match haul to 11. Earlier, he hit three sixes in a decisive innings of 50.
