Record 151 for Hassan

13 April 2012

Egyptian striker Hossam Hassan should break the world record for international appearances when he plays against Zambia in Cairo tomorrow.

The 34-year-old, with more than 50 international goals to his name, equalled the record of Germany's Lothar Matthaeus when he won his 150th cap in the 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates on Saturday.

Hassan should win several more caps this month. Egypt play Libya in an African Nations Cup qualifier on Saturday, then face China and Iran in a four-team tournament in Tehran next week and play North Korea on 23 January.
