Rijkaard gloom over 'bad night'

12 April 2012

Barcelona coach Frank Rijkaard put his side's UEFA Super Cup defeat to Sevilla down to "a bad night."

Barca were hammered 3-0 by their Spanish rivals at the Stade Louis II in Monaco, with Renato, former West Ham striker Frederic Kanoute and Enzo Maresca on the score sheet.

"It was a disappointing result for us as we failed to achieve what we set out to do against a very well-organised Sevilla side," said Rijkaard.

"The second goal was the crucial one, coming as it did on the stroke of half-time, and I feel that that was the breaking point for us.

"But overall they played to their strengths and to their system and that made it very difficult for us.

"I feel this was a bad night, but Sevilla deserved to win the game and we have learned that we cannot win all the time."

Sevilla coach Juande Ramos said: "This is a great victory for us.

"Tactically we were excellent. We never allowed Barcelona to get on top of us.

"But we also scored goals at vital times, early in the first half and more importantly late on in the same period."
