Joe Simpson shocked by London Wasps woeful campaign

10 April 2012

Joe Simpson admits London Wasps' season has been a "failure" after they missed out on Heineken Cup qualification.

The former European and English champions have lost nine of their last 11 matches and travel to Exeter on Saturday for the final Aviva Premiership game in danger of ending the campaign in ninth.

Scrum-half Simpson, who is set to win a place in the England World Cup squad, told the Bucks Free Press: "Everyone here will say it's been a failure of a season. We know we need to be in the top four, we need to be in the Heineken Cup and the LV Cup semi-finals or final. Without one of those, it's been a failure.

"It has been a frustrating year. Everyone needs to have a long hard think and come back more determined than the year before. We've let ourselves and our fans down and it's been a very frustrating and disappointing season for us. There's been no silverware and there have been poor performances."

"I don't like to beat about the bush, I think honesty is the best policy and how the season's gone has been pretty woeful."
