Kicker: Ben Botica
Standard Sport23 December 2014

Ahead of this weekend’s Big Game 7 at Twickenham, three Harlequins fly-halves have revealed how they cope with the pressure when kicking.

Quins will take on Northampton Saints on Saturday in the seventh annual Christmas fixture.

Speaking ahead of the fixture, Ben Botica explained his mind-set when lining up for a big kick.

“I don’t really hear the crowd,” Botica said. “If they’re yelling or if they’re silent, it makes no difference to me.”

His team-mate and fellow fly-half Louis Grimoldby added: “You have to be confident and back yourself.

“You’ve got to be able to deal with pressure and almost just be able to completely zone out and take yourself out a situation.”

Nick Evans, who has been at Quins since 2008, said he enjoys the pressure.

“I think I thrive on that kind of pressure and enjoy it,” Evans said. “I don’t see it as a bit of a burden.

“I see it as a bit of excitement and a chance to help the team out in my own way.”
