Wasps director of rugby Dai Young today revealed the club are closing in on up to three more signings after Scotland fly-half Ruaridh Jackson became the latest player to join the club.
Jackson, 26, is the fifth player Young has signed following Wales lock Bradley Davies, the Sale pair of Rob Miller and James Gaskell as well as Italy prop Lorenzo Cittadini.
The 23-cap international made his 100th appearance for Glasgow Warriors in January and has scored 443 points for the Scottish outfit with all but 40 of them coming from his boot.
Young said: “We are in strong discussions with two or three more players and we are getting positive signs in those talks. “
He has been able to bolster the squad because of new investment and knows picking up the Amlin Challenge Cup and qualifying for next season’s European Rugby Champions Cup will increase the club’s profile.
On Sunday, Wasps are at home to Bath in the Amlin Cup semi-final while they are now seventh in the Premiership and if they hold that position they will go into a play-off against the seventh best French Top 14 side with the winner going into the Champions Cup.
“Finishing seventh in the Premiership is important but so is doing well in the Amlin and we know how tough it will be against Bath,” said Young. “They have already beaten us twice this season and were too good on both occasions but there isn’t any reason why we cannot get the right result this time.
“The Cup has seen up produce our most consistent performances this season and winning the competition would give this squad so much confidence.”
