Samaras completes Celtic switch

12 April 2012

Celtic have completed the signing of striker Georgios Samaras from Manchester City.

The Greece international, who spent four months on loan at Parkhead last season, has signed a three-year contract with the Scottish champions.

He told his new club's official website, www.celticfc.net: "I am really happy with this move and I think both sides are really happy."

Samaras, a £5million signing by then City boss Stuart Pearce in 2006, moves north of the border for an undisclosed fee

The 23-year-old made 21 appearances and scored six goals as the Hoops won the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title last season.

He continued: "I wanted to stay here, Celtic wanted to keep me here and both sides are happy with this transfer.

"Last season (at Celtic) was four really enjoyable months for me and a great experience for me to play in both the Scottish Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

"I think we finished in the best possible way, winning the championship and I am really proud of what we achieved.

"It was the best moment in my career so far and I am really happy that I have signed here and I hope that more good moments come for both me and the club."
