Scans for injured England duo

12 April 2012

Kevin Pietersen and Andrew Flintoff have stayed behind in Barbados to have scans on injuries sustained in Sunday's convincing victory in the fourth one-day international against West Indies.

The rest of England's touring squad flew overnight from Barbados to St Lucia immediately after the emphatic nine-wicket victory at the Kensington Oval, which set up a series decider on Friday.

But England's two biggest stars remained behind to have scans at a Barbados hospital, which will then be relayed back to London and be examined before any decisions are made about future treatment.

Pietersen limped out of the game having bowled only five balls of his only over before suffering a back spasm while all-rounder Flintoff suffered an injury to his left thumb in the field.

Flintoff was given an ultra-sound at the ground on Sunday, which confirmed there was no fracture, and England expect both players to join up with the rest of the squad in St Lucia later Monday.
