Serena wastes no time

Serena Williams gave herself plenty of recovery time for the third round of the French Open by racing through Friday's postponed clash with Julia Goerges.

Williams' second-round meeting with Goerges fell victim to the weather on Thursday, meaning the world number one will be back on court again on Saturday.

Played in glorious sunshine, the 28-year-old secured an emphatic 6-1 6-1 win in just 55 minutes on Suzanne Lenglen Court.

Williams, who will play either 29th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova or Jill Craybas next, could not have wished for a more straightforward first set.

After being outplayed in the first set, world number 77 Goerges' serve disintegrated at the start of the second, the 21-year-old double-faulting four times to gift the American a double break.

She ended a nine-game losing streak by saving break point in game five but she was just delaying the inevitable, dropping serve again to Williams, who has only once failed to reach the last 32 of a grand slam.
