Seventh time lucky as White knocks out Hendry

14 April 2012

Jimmy White can go into tomorrow's quarter-final with Peter Ebdon full of confidence after finally beating Stephen Hendry.

White has had few better snooker results in 23 visits to the Masters than his 6-4 victory over six-times Wembley winner Hendry last night.

At the seventh time of asking, the 41-yearold Londoner brought the house down at the Conference Centre by beating his Scottish nemesis.

He now faces Ebdon when he can hope to repeat last season's dramatic second-round victory over the Londoner when White recovered from 5-1 down to stun the then reigning world champion 6-5. Ebdon reached the last eight with a 6-3 success over Australian Quinten Hann.

Today sees the first two quarter-finals. The opening match is a repeat of the 2002 final between Paul Hunter and defending champion Mark Williams.

This evening 1999 champion John Higgins tackles Stephen Lee.
