Shaken Knights face cup test

Paul Fielder13 April 2012

London Knights will tonight try to clinch a Challenge Cup final place just 48 hours after their worst ever home defeat.

The first leg of Knights' semi-final against Ayr Scottish Eagles finished 5-5. But the Evening Stan-dard-sponsored Knights go into tonight's second leg on the back of Sunday's 6-1 drubbing against Sheffield Steelers, who clinched the Superleague title.

Knights' head coach Chris McSorley ordered them back to their home rink for extra training after the dreadful display on Sunday.

McSorley hopes to recall No 1 netminder Trevor Robins tonight for his first game since the Continental Cup Finals in Zurich a month ago.

Robins's return from a groin injury will restore confidence to the team, but Knights are still missing their captain Pat Ferschweiler, who has a wrist injury and could miss the rest of the season.

McSorley will look to centres Mark Kolesar, Jay Neal and Mikko Koivunoro to plug the hole if they make it to the final in Belfast on 10 March.

Tonight's victors will face either Belfast or the grand slam-chasing Steel-ers in the final.

Challenge Cup semi-final, second leg: London Knights v Ayr Scottish Eagles (tonight 7pm, London Arena). For tickets telephone: 0207 538 1212.
