Smith support for Vialli

13 April 2012

Watford striker Tommy Smith has pleaded with the board to be patient with boss Gianluca Vialli because he believes the Italian will lead the Hornets into the Premiership.

Vialli admitted before his side's 2-0 win at Crystal Palace that he was feeling under pressure.

But Smith believes Vialli is already doing a great job at Vicarage Road and said: "Luca is incredibly important to this club. The fans can't see what difference he has made off the pitch, but everything he has done has been brilliant."

Smith also tried to ease fears he may leave as he stalls over a new contract. He added: "We are still talking about it, but there is no reason for the hold-up and I am definitely staying at the club."
