Marathon man in running to carry Olympic torch

'Honoured': Neil O'Maonaigh Lennon says he has been inspired by the Olympics
5 April 2012

A marathon runner is the latest Londoner nominated to carry the Olympic torch.

Neil O'Maonaigh Lennon, right, a 31-year-old from Harrow who is training to be a chemistry teacher, completed 105 marathons in 105 days last year. He said being a torchbearer would be an "incredible honour", adding: "I have been inspired by the Olympics ever since I was a child."

He was nominated by his friend, Nikki Owen, 36, a graphic designer, who said: "I thought it would be a nice way to show what a great person he is. Neil is very proudly British and very proud to say he's from London."

Standard readers can nominate "unsung heroes" from whom five will be chosen as torchbearers, courtesy of the relay's sponsor, Lloyds TSB. Go to www.lloydstsb.com/carrytheflame and enter the code "Standard".
