Strauss short-listed for award

12 April 2012

England's Ashes-winning captain Andrew Strauss is among four players short-listed for the International Cricket Council's cricketer of the year award.

Indians Gautam Gambhir and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are also in the running for the Sir Garfield Sobers trophy - as is Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson, despite his own disappointing Ashes tour this summer.

Strauss, Gambhir and Johnson are also still in with a chance of the Test player-of-the-year award, alongside Sri Lanka's Thilan Samaraweera.

They will discover who has won when the awards are presented at the sixth annual LG ICC awards in Johannesburg on October 1.

There are eight individual prizes, as well as awards for the Test and one-day international Teams of the Year and the Spirit of Cricket.

England captain Charlotte Edwards and batsman Claire Taylor are the short-list for the women's cricketer-of-the-year award, and Graham Onions is still in with a chance of winning the emerging player-of-the-year category.
