Sven: I want to see out FA contract

13 April 2012

Sven-Goran Eriksson has been taken aback by suggestions that he does not want to see out his five-year contract with the Football Association.

Reports in some newspapers claimed the Swede did expect to be in charge of the national side for the full length of his deal.

However, Eriksson maintains that his comments in an interview with Swedish newspaper Aftonblade have been misinterpreted.

In a statement to the Press Association by the FA, Eriksson said: "I have a contract with England for five years, which I am extremely proud of.

"I hope to survive and complete that contract, but of course in football you never know."

Eriksson has won all five games since taking charge at the start of the year and has put England's bid to reach the 2002 World Cup finals firmly back on track.
