Andy Murray and Serena Williams will both be left with a potential fixture pile-up after their Wimbledon mixed doubles opener was postponed.

The high-profile pair were due to begin their campaign on Friday evening against Germany's Andreas Mies and Andrea Guarachi of Chile.

However, the Centre Court debut of 15-year-old American prodigy Cori Gauff - locked in an intense battle with Polona Hercog in the third round of the women's singles - went to a deciding third set, leading organisers to eventually announce to a disappointed crowd that the Murray/Williams contest had been cancelled.

While it is yet to be officially confirmed, it is expected that the match will be played on Saturday afternoon instead.

After surviving a scare against teenage qualifier Kaja Juvan earlier this week, Williams is due to play her next singles contest against Julia Georges at 1pm BST tomorrow on No1 Court.

Murray also already has one match on the schedule for Saturday.

The Briton and Pierre-Hugues Herbert are due to face sixth-seeded Croatians Nikola Mektic and Franko Skugor in the second round of the men's doubles competition.

That meeting is scheduled to be the second played on No2 Court.
