Sam Querrey happy to let Andy Murray hog Wimbledon limelight

10 April 2012

Sam Querrey is happy to take to Andy Murray's stage this afternoon as the pair battle it out to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.

The 23-year-old has not yet assumed the home favourite status of his predecessor as British number one, Tim Henman, but the signs are that he is winning over the doubters.

Murray put on a consummate display of all-court tennis in his third-round victory over Gilles Simon on Saturday and was cheered to the rafters by an appreciative Centre Court crowd.

The support is likely to be even greater today as the fourth seed continues his bid to end Britain's 74-year wait for a home male singles champion at Wimbledon.

Querrey, though, does not begrudge his rival that particular advantage.

"It's a little rough," he said. "Hopefully you can get a few claps if you play a good point. But it's understandable. As an American, I play almost half my tournaments in the US. I can't complain too much.

"Andy Murray has got Queen's and Wimbledon. Let him have his moment with the fans. I've got three months worth of tournaments in America."
