Tide turns for Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton
12 April 2012

Lewis Hamilton chalked up his first win for 10 races to ignite his championship challenge, although he insisted he had never been away.

Hamilton capitalised on a collision between Red Bull Racing duo Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel to spearhead a McLaren one-two ahead of team-mate Jenson Button in the Turkish Grand Prix. Formula One's last two world champions, Hamilton in 2008 and Button last season, are now just nine and five points respectively behind Webber, who survived the accident to finish third.

"I don't think I was ever gone," said Hamilton, when asked if he was back.

"I have just been a little unfortunate up until now, but I think bit by bit myself and the team have just worked very hard to chip away.

"After qualifying second, we knew that was just one step we needed to make, and although they (Red Bull) made it very tough for us, we put up a good fight.

"You can see how close it is between the four of us now.

"We are all doing a great job and it's really down to the momentum, trying to keep it with the team.

"Jenson and I are going to do the best we can to push the team forward to win both championships."
