Toffees agree Baines fee

12 April 2012

Everton have agreed a fee with Wigan for England Under-21 defender Leighton Baines.

Baines will undergo a medical on Monday and is set to discuss personal terms with the club he supported as a boy.

The 22-year-old has been much in demand this summer and turned down a £6million move to Sunderland last month.

Baines played no part in Wigan's friendly victory over Leeds on Saturday and was reportedly suffering from a hamstring strain but his absence fuelled speculation that a move was imminent.

Wigan manager Chris Hutchings paid tribute to Baines for his contribution to Wigan's remarkable rise through the leagues

"He has done a fantastic job for this club after coming through the system," said the Wigan boss.

"He was brought up here and knows a lot of people but sometimes you need to make a change in your life."
