Tom Daley wins second Commonwealth gold medal

Double gold: Tom Daley in action in the 10metre platform final
13 April 2012

England's Tom Daley won his second Commonwealth diving gold in Delhi today.

The 16-year-old, who defied the wishes of his coach to compete in India rather than prepare for next year's World Championships in Shanghai, produced a stunning final dive to beat Australia's Olympic champion Matthew Mitcham in the 10metre platform at the Dr SP Mukherjee Aquatics Complex.

The pair traded the lead throughout the competition and Daley entered the final round with a lead of just 1.75points.

However, while Daley showed few nerves in producing a very good dive, his Australian rival fluffed his entry and was marked accordingly.

Daley finished with 538.35pts, 27.20 ahead of Mitcham although that did not reflect the close nature of the contest.

It was Daley's second title in two days after he partnered Max Brick to the 10m synchro title yesterday.
