Top award for Radcliffe

Paul Radcliffe has become the first Briton to win the prestigious Abebe Bikila award, given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to distance running.

The world marathon record holder, expecting her first child in January, will receive the award from the 'New York Road Runners' at a ceremony next weekend.

Radcliffe said: "It`s a great honour for me to receive such an award. The name [Bikila] represents so much in distance running and it is a huge privilege to join the list of outstanding athletes and previous winners who have done so much for our sport."
