Top seed Henman in confident mood

13 April 2012

Tim Henman, the top seed at the Copenhagen Open, said today he was in a confident frame of mind as he prepared to face Slava Dosedel of the Czech Republic in his opening match tonight.

"I'm looking forward to the match and believe I am mentally and physically in the right shape," said the British No 2.

Sweden's Andreas Vinciguerra started the defence of his Copenhagen title with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Canada's Daniel Nestor last night.

The fourth-seeded Vinciguerra, rusty after a three-week lay-off, fell behind 4-2 in the second set after dropping his serve on the fast hardcourt at KB Hallen.

But he broke back in the next game and another service break in the ninth game gave him a 5-4 lead. He then held serve to win the match. Vinciguerra next faces Paul Goldstein, a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Germany's Christian Vinck.

Andrew Ilie, the No 3 seed from Australia, rallied to beat Tomas Zib of the Czech Republic 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 while Rainer Schuettler also came from behind, beating German compatriot Jens Knippschild 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in the final match on the opening day.
