Tough start at Spurs for Booth

13 April 2012

Loan signing Andy Booth is likely to make his Tottenham debut against West Ham at Upton Park tomorrow.

Sheffield Wednesday striker Booth has joined Spurs for a month and his agent Garry Dickinson said: "It's a dream move for him. Spurs are a huge club and I think he'll do very well. It's a chance for Andy to prove himself at the highest level once again."

Booth, 27, played under Tottenham director of football David Pleat at Wednesday and scored the First Division club's goal in their 3-1 FA Cup defeat at Southampton on Saturday.

But it was only his third goal of the season and, since moving from Huddersfield for £2.7million in August 1996, Booth has scored 27 times in 130 league appearances.

Spurs have taken him on while strikers Les Ferdinand, Steffen Iversen and Chris Armstrong recover from injuries.

"It's unusual for us to make a loan signing but we felt we wanted to give Les the maximum chance to rehabilitate from his hamstring injury," said Pleat. "We don't want to force him back too quickly because we have a heavy schedule coming up.

"We felt we needed a little more strength to go with Sergei Rebrov to give him a fair opportunity."
