Trotters handed win by Blues

Birmingham gifted Bolton all their goals as Gary Megson's side won a crucial relegation clash 3-0 at Reebok Stadium.

After Kevin Nolan's earlier 'goal' was ruled offside, El-Hadji Diouf fired Wanderers ahead in the 72nd minute following Stephen Kelly's air kick.

Then, six minutes later, on-loan Arsenal defender Johan Djourou's throw-in back to his goalkeeper Maik Taylor was short, allowing Nicolas Anelka to steal in and score from a tight angle.

City gave the ball away poorly in midfield in injury-time, allowing Nolan to play in Anelka for his second.

Gary McSheffrey's curling free-kick from the right was met by a diving Ivan Campo at the near post, who glanced the ball towards his own net. Luckily for the Spaniard, Jussi Jaaskelainen was able to block and the ball was cleared.

Rahdi Jaidi joined Nicky Hunt in the book in the 65th minute for tugging back Diouf, and from the resulting free-kick Bolton had the ball in the net.

Diouf's cross was flicked on by Kevin Davies and finished from two yards by Nolan, who wheeled away to celebrate - only to see a linesman's flag.

Bolton did have the lead in the 72nd minute, however, following a defensive howler from Kelly, who miskicked to allow Diouf to collect and fire home after Anelka's centre.

It was 2-0 six minutes later after more comic defending. This time Djourou was the guilty party as his throw-in back to Taylor sold his keeper short, allowing Anelka to steal in, go around the stranded stopper and tap home from an acute angle.

Kapo then had Blues' best chance of the game when the ball broke for him on the edge of the area but after rounding Jaaskelainen, his shot was cleared. Anelka was then gifted a third in injury-time after Blues gave the ball away in midfield.
