Andy Turner was in line to benefit from a controversial finish to the final of the 110 metres hurdles final at the World Championships in Daegu on Monday night.

Britain's European champion crossed the line fourth but was upgraded to third, bronze medal position, after the Chinese team protested that winner Dayron Robles had obstructed Liu Xiang.

The Cuban appeared to hit Liu's left arm as the pair went over a hurdle, with Liu coming home third. Robles was then disqualified for obstruction but a counter-protest was filed and the final decision will be made by the IAAF jury of appeal.

Turner's GB team-mate Will Sharman was sixth in 13.67.

Amantle Montsho denied Allyson Felix the first part of a possible 200-400m double by winning the 400m in a Botswanan record 49.56, Felix taking silver.

American Carmelita Jeter wept tears of joy after winning gold in the 100m in 10.90. Jeanette Kwakye went out in the semi-finals.

Steve Lewis finished ninth in the pole vault with 5.65m.
