Upbeat Ward hopes to repeat Plymouth heroics

Darren Ward is bidding to extend his lucky goalscoring form against Plymouth tomorrow.

The defender has joined relegation-threatened Charlton on loan until the end of the season after finding himself out of favour at Molineux.

Ward, 30, signed for Wolves from Crystal Palace in July 2007 but was loaned out to Watford earlier this season.

And he says he is enjoying his return to the capital where his aim is to save Charlton from the drop. Ward (right) said: "I scored my first Palace goal against Plymouth and that was the winner, so I'm looking forward to playing against them.

"It's a very important game and we've got our sights set on getting a good win. It's a breath of fresh air to be back down south. The lads here have been welcoming me to the club and we've been getting a bit of fun back in the training sessions.

"It's been a bit frustrating [at Wolves] as I miss playing week in, week out. So as soon as I knew there was an opportunity at Charlton, then I jumped at the chance.

"I'm here until the last game of the season and I just want to do my bit."

Charlton are waiting on the fitness of Mark Hudson and Graeme Murty, who have hip and ankle knocks, respectively.
