Vaughan happy with Moores' start

12 April 2012

Captain Michael Vaughan believes the "expected" npower Test series win over West Indies represents a great start to Peter Moores' reign as England coach.

The weather-defying victory wrapped up a 3-0 campaign success in Moores' first assignment since succeeding Duncan Fletcher.

"If we are honest that is what we expected and when expectations are high it can put more pressure on the team," said Vaughan, after a series score which maintained second-placed England's Test rating of 114 points in the rankings. "But I am really pleased with the way the team went about their business; it's a great start for Peter Moores."

Despite having all but 40 overs of the first two days of the fourth Test washed out at the Riverside, England were able to saunter to a seven-wicket win with local hero Paul Collingwood, whose hundred set up the chance for a positive result, fittingly hitting the winning runs.

Vaughan added: "There were times when we weren't at our best but it is hard to be at your best all the time.

"The important thing for us is that we won the important sessions - when we needed a partnership we got one, the same when we needed a wicket."

Although Monty Panesar took the overall honours as his five-wicket haul took his overall man-of-the-series tally to 23, Vaughan was glowing about a reincarnation of fast bowler Steve Harmison as intimidator-in-chief.

Offered a chink of light by Dwayne Bravo's sacrificial slog, Panesar and Harmison were central to the final six wickets tumbling to set a modest target of 110.

"When you get a 100-run lead you know there is only one team that can win the game and we went out and bowled with some intensity," said Vaughan.
