Victory 'all I wanted' - Inzaghi

Filippo Inzaghi was understandably elated after his match-winning performance against Liverpool handed AC Milan their seventh European crown.

Inzaghi struck twice to give the Rossoneri a 2-1 triumph in Athens, an outcome which allowed them to avenge their painful defeat two years ago in Istanbul.

"I still can't believe it," said an emotional Inzaghi, who missed the 2005 final in Turkey through injury. "I had already won the Champions League with Milan (2003) but to have scored twice in a final is an incredible feeling. This is all that I desired after a long football career."

It is all the more significant for Inzaghi considering that he was a member of Italy's World Cup winning side in Germany last summer.

"To win the Champions League with AC Milan having won the World Cup with Italy is something any kid would dream of," he added. "Yet I have achieved both and it brings me great joy. I always try to work hard and to give my best and it's nice to see that all the sacrifices one makes does pay off."

The 33-year-old deflected the opener on the stroke of half-time after Andrea Pirlo's 20-yard free-kick hit the Milan striker and wrong-footed goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

"I was fortunate in the first goal," admitted Inzaghi, who struck his second with eight minutes remaining.

Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt reduced the deficit shortly after but it proved to no avail. Inzaghi, who was named man of the match, praised his team-mates before pledging his future to the club.

"This team deserves all the compliments," he said. "Our side is made up of real men and there is a great atmosphere within the group.

"I will finish my career at AC Milan and I will continue to play as long as I am fit. In this club I feel a lot of trust."
