Vieri proves his worth to Cuper's men

14 April 2012

Hector Cuper's late decision to send on Christian Vieri paid off when the Italian striker scored in the 90th minute as Internazionale beat Dynamo Kiev 2-1 in Group B.

Vieri, a summer target for Chelsea, had been sidelined for three weeks with a calf injury he suffered playing against Serbia and Montenegro but Inter coach Cuper named him among the substitutes against the Ukrainians.

Inter took a 23rd-minute lead through Daniele Adani, but Kiev drew level 11 minutes later when Serhiy Fyodorov scored.

Vieri's header from a Kily Gonzalez free-kick gave the Italians, 3-0 winners at Highbury, a maximum six points from two games.
