We need more experience says Cole

14 April 2012

Arsenal defender Ashley Cole has called on the club to buy some experienced players in the summer to ensure they do not fall further behind rivals Chelsea.

Saturday's FA Cup semi-final against Blackburn is the club's only chance of silverware this season as they trail Jose Mourinho's side by 11 points in the Barclays Premiership.

And Cole, who ironically has been accused by the FA of making an illegal approach to Chelsea in the tapping up row which has also seen the Stamford Bridge club and their manager charged, believes it is time for Arsenal to make a move.

"The club definitely needs to invest to avoid being left behind," the defender told New Nation weekly, according to The Guardian.

"We've got a great young squad but, when it comes to vital games, maybe we would have got out of jail with a bit more experience.

"It is quite hard sometimes when you see Chelsea and even Manchester United buying big-name players and chucking their money around.

"You would love your club to have a lot of money to buy great players.

"Of course it is good that we are bringing the young ones through but sometimes I think if we would have had a top-class midfielder or top-class player to fill someone's boots it would have been a little bit easier."
