Webber happy with surprise present

Mark Webber was clearly grateful to be handed a rare gift that has propelled him back to the top of the Formula One standings.

Webber is now four points clear following his fourth win this year with a crushing success in Hungary. The Australian appeared destined for third until the deployment of the safety car on lap 15 that sparked chaos and turned the race on its head - which led to his triumph ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel.

"It's a pretty unexpected victory," said Webber. "I knew unless Seb made a mistake or had a problem, it was always going to be his race. But as we saw, sometimes things happen, so for whatever reason it was a bit of a gift for me."

He added: "Most of my other victories haven't been gifted to me, so I will take this one.

"It's tough Seb lost two places, and obviously in the constructors' we have lost a few more points through the mistake on the radio or whatever. But look, I am not sitting here complaining. You have to take them when you can get them. I still had to do the job.

"It is a pretty long race, and it's easy to not always get it right but we did here."

Vettel was left bemoaning the safety car, a dodgy radio and the stewards for failing to convert pole into a win for the sixth time in seven races this season.

The 23-year-old claims the loss of his in-car radio resulted in him sleeping when the safety car returned after two laps as he had been relying on a call from his pit wall.

When he realised what was happening Webber, who had yet to pit in contrast to Vettel, had stolen a quick march on his team-mate.

Vettel, though, had allowed the gap to exceed what is permissible in the regulations - 10 car lengths - and he was given a drive- through penalty.
