Jonny Wilkinson has hinted at a possible comeback during this season's Six Nations internationals.

The England fly-half has been hit by a string of serious injuries since the 2003 World Cup Final, the latest being a dislocated knee he suffered more than two months ago.

Wilkinson, 29, will shortly undergo surgery to assess his recovery.

But when asked if he could return to the England squad in the New Year, he said: "I'm not sure at the moment but I hope so. I'm always positive.

"I'm still waiting to get on my feet and properly move around.

"That should be around January time and after that I'd like to think I could get back to playing."

England have lost three of their four games since Martin Johnson took over as manager but Wilkinson said: "I believe he will be successful. I genuinely believe it."
