Sixth form students still making the tough decision of where to head for university next September might want to take a break from their UCAS applications to see this.

Pizza Hut has teamed up with Manchester Metropolitan University to create the undergraduate programme of dreams: the UK’s first degree in pizza.

Running over the next five years, the scheme will take in 1,500 apprentices at varying levels of education, from level 1 up to degree level.

Those that bag a spot on the course will study either at the university or within Pizza Hut itself, and candidates will be expected to train in a range of skills, from food production to financial analysis, during the degree level programme.

The best pizza in London

The idea is that you leave the course with skills for management, budgeting and, of course, making tasty pizza.

Kathryn Austin, director of HR and marketing at Pizza Hut Restaurants told Manchester Evening News “The launch of our apprenticeships comes at an exciting time for our business as we continue to make headway in our refurbishment programme.

"Over the next few years we will work hard to provide our apprentices and team members with the best training and development so that we can equip them with skills for life, not just for working in a restaurant.”

Of course, this isn’t the first strange degree we’ve spotted on offer to undergraduates this year. If pizza isn't to your taste, you could study Yacht Operations at South Devon College, Dairy Heard Management at Reaseheath College or Ethical Hacking at the University of Abertay in Dundee.

And for fans of the Great British Bake Off, there’s always a degree in Baking Technology Management at London South Bank University.
